The historic center of Bretten, about a 15-minute walk away, is characterized by lovingly restored half-timbered houses and narrow streets that invite you to take leisurely walks. Particularly impressive is the Melanchthon House, which was once the residence of the reformer Philipp Melanchthon. Today, the half-timbered house houses a museum that provides information about the life and work of the important scholar.
The Pfeiferturm, the most powerful structure of the medieval Bretten city fortifications, was built in the 13th century. Over the years, it underwent numerous changes and at times served as a prison. In 2009, the tower was restored with a historically oriented roof.
